If you are looking for the history of main advances in knowledge (arts, sciences, philosophy etc.), you probably need a book rather than an article. Not sure if this is something that would be helpful, but here is one (let’s see if this works): Van Doren “History of Knowledge”

One source on the history of western philosophy is Russell.
